An interview with David Tom (Billy)

Friends Till The End: Billy Abbott and Raul Guittierez
Falling Around: Billy and Raul were grade-school buds, but lost touch after
Billy went to live with his dad in N.Y.C. in 1998. When Billy returned to
Genoa City a year later, he and Raul re-connected right away. So much so that
when Billy passed out from alcohol poisoning last year, Raul gave him
mouth-to-mouth. The friendship was strained, however, when Billy fell for
Raul's girl, Mackenzie. Currently, Billy is deeply concerned about Raul's
worsening health.

Having Their Say: David Tom (Billy) and David Lago (Raul).

Digest: Who's better friend in your on-screen friendship?
Lago: "Raul, because he didn't backstab Billy by going after his girl."
Tom: "I disagree completely! Billy messed up, and he was sorry for it."

Digest: When did you guys first meet?
Lago: "We were both up for the part of Will on One Life To Live."

Digest: How did you become friends at Y&R?
Tom: "We started hanging out at the studio. We went to some parties, too.
David was underage that first summer, so he couldn't get into clubs."

Digest: What interest do you share?
Lago: "Video games. We played James Bond: Golden Eye for hours."
Tom: "I'd kick his butt!"
Lago: "No, it was the other way around!"

Digest: Is there anything you disagree on?
Tom: "Music. I make fun of David's taste."
Lago: "I listen to Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Creed, all different kinds of
music. David's into rap."
Tom: "Because I like to dance! I dance to hip-hop."
Lago: "I like to dance, too. But not to Pearl Jam. It's for driving."

Digest: You're both nominated for an Emmy. What if one of you win?
Lago: "We're going to party Saturday night, and the winner pays for
everything."
Tom: "That's the deal. It could be a crazy night."

Digest: What was the most exciting event you ever witnessed?
Tom: "Carnival, when I was in Venice, Italy."

Digest: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Tom: "Still working as an actor doing projects that I love."

Digest: What's your favorite day of the year?
Tom: "Christmas day. All of my friends and family gets together. We celebrate
and have a great time."

Digest: Describe your ideal day off.
Tom: "Getting things done that I like to do and relaxing outside."

Digest: What's your favorite motto?
Tom: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

How did you find out about your nomination?
Tom: "My publicist called me that morning."

What was your reaction?
Tom: "I was very pleased, excited and honored to be recognized again."

Who was the first person you told?
Tom: "My mom."

Who do you think was overlooked?
Tom: "It's hard to say: There are so many fine actors on daytime, and you can
only nominate a few."

What do you think was your strongest work last year?
Tom: "My scenes with Mac (Ashley Bashioum) after the prom. I thought we
really connected."

Which of your co-stars do you credit with helping you earn the nomination?
Tom: "All of them in the teen storyline. We truly work together---on and off
the set."

If you could pick anyone in the world, whom would you like to be a presenter
in your category?
Tom: "My sister Heather (Victoria, Y&R)---I will always be in awe of her and
her work."

If not you, who do you think might win your category?
Tom: "They are all worthy of an Emmy. I am very proud of my category."

What would winning the Emmy mean to you?
Tom: "That my peers again recognize my work---I would be honored and
overwhelmed."

Whom would you be sure to thank in your acceptance speech?
Tom: "My mother, for all her hard work raising the three of us."

Whom will you bring to the Emmys as your guest?
Tom: "My mom and my sister Nicholle."

Dear David,
Working so closely with Ashley Bashioum (Mac) and Lauren Woodland (Brittany),
do you ever feel yourself falling for either one of the actresses? ~Kris
Dear Kris,
No, I never mix business with pleasure, although they are both highly
attractive!

Dear David,
What do you think Billy will do now that Mac doesn't want anything to do with
him? ~Candy
Dear Candy,
Maybe Billy will try to patch things up or move on, as Mac wants him too.

Dear David,
I heard you are 25 years old. How does it feel to play a character so much
younger? Also, do you see a teen pregnancy storyline coming up? ~Shana
Dear Shana,
I'm not sure what the writers have in mind, but I guess anything is a
possibility. I'm 22, by the way!

Dear David,
What is your idea of the perfect date? ~Sandra
Dear Sandra,
Good company with a really sweet, attractive girl.

Dear David,
Is it difficult portraying all the different emotions that Billy is going
through? ~Debbie
Dear Debbie,
No, it's not really difficult because I have had a lot of the same
experiences when I was younger.

Dear David,
Do you like doing a soap opera? If you ever leave this one, which I hope you
don't, would you do another soap, or would you rather do something else?
~Marianna
Dear Marianna,
Yes, it's really fun work. Hopefully, I will branch out into other TV series
work.

Dear David,
Are you and your real-life family as close as you seem? (Ed: David costars on
Y&R with his sister, Heather (Victoria), and he also has a twin sister,
Nicholle, who starred as oldest daughter, Maggie, on The Nanny.) ~Danelle
Dear Danelle,
Yes, we really are that close in real life!
